Smorgasbord!

Here is a blog post about many things!

Last week was my dear friend Lisa’s birthday. If there is one thing I (or anyone who knows her) know about Lisa is that the woman LOVES Neil Diamond. Her favorite Neil Diamond song is “‘I Am,’ I Said.” I know this because I asked her. If you’ve never heard this song, here it is for your listening enjoyment.

I wanted to make Lisa a gift having to do with this song. Initially, I was going to embroider the words to part of the song and make a little wall hanging type thing, but every time I tried it just didn’t go well. I got very fixated on the “no one heard at all, not even the chair,” and this is what I cam up with in the end.

I pretty much love it. The chair legs are beads, and I knit a tiny little afghan for the back of the chair. Call it an artist’s interpretation. It cracks me up.

Another thing Lisa loves is delicious, sugary breakfast cereal. I have a similar love and when I found this recipe on Pinterest, I knew I had to make them for someone. Lisa won the prize and got special birthday Cinnamon Toast Crunch cupcakes.

They were good! Not my favorite ever, but quite tasty. I think the thing I love most about this recipe is how the box cake mix was doctored up to be incredibly delicious. The cake part of the cupcake was my favorite part.

So, Lisa came on her birthday and we had cupcakes, but we also did what we typically do when we get together – make crafty wonderfulness. At the end of craft time, I was left with this!

I’ve been trying for a while to come up with a calendar system for our house and so far nothing has stuck. I’m really hoping this will – it seems simple enough to keep up with. We used the Cricut to cut out the squares out of different scrapbooking paper and mounted each square on the black backing and then put it into the frame. It’s simple but sweet.

Moving on from birthday times, this past weekend I attended a baby shower. To match the invitations and theme of the shower, I made zebra print cookies!

I won’t lie. For my first try, I’m pretty proud of myself. I love the way they came out!

And finally, a little spring came to our house the other day when Micah bought me tulips. I normally enjoy the winter, but the no snow weirdness of this winter has me pretty ready for the beautiful colors and smells of spring.
